Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand was an eighteenth and nineteenth century psychic medium. Although she moved to London briefly during her younger years, she eventually opened her first shop in Paris, France. She used a deck of Tarot cards called the Etteilla for her divinations.

This deck was created and first used by Jean-Baptisite Alliette. Madame Lenormand’s favorite deck, the Etteilla deck, actually bears his pseudonym Alliette spelled in reverse. In fact, many accredit Jean-Baptiste as being the first to popularize and produce Tarot cards specifically for divination. Thousands of Europe’s most influential people consulted Madam Lenormand. She was very political and a friend to rebels and royalty alike. Jailed many times during the French revolution as a pagan, heretic, and witch she was no stranger to discrimination.
